7.1.26 Too hot to fish during daylight. Rob is watching the World Cup in his cold basement. No fishing when temps are in the upper 90s.

5.3.26 Plenty of Hickory Shad in the Potomac. Tidal water is off color and slow. Th area needs over a foot of rain to recover from drought conditions.

5.1.26 Rob will speak at the May meeting of the Potomac Patuxant Trout Unlimited. He will record his talk for the podcast. The subject will be about bass flies for slow water summer bass.

4.18.26 We need rain.

4.4.26 Hot temps and clear sky. Fewer shad in the river. Maybe a few hundred herring at the creek mouth. Damsels for all fish caught. Several openings for week of April 5. Police were called for wildlife violations. None arrived.

4.2.26 Started the shad season with fog, chilly temps, and a full moon. Rob has never seen striped bass as big as the ones being caught on bait. The client hooked several white perch and hickory shad. A striper of over 30” ate one shad and was lost after a brief fight. Another massive striper then ate the shad jig. River absolutely full of river herring. Pink jigs and variety of Schuman Ostrich damsels.

3.23.26 The 2026 Shad Run has started. Rob received his permit to guide along the GW Parkway regardless of the sewage spill up river. There are no other guides permitted to fish or pickup clients on a boat on either Potomac shoreline. Watch Rob hook into loads of fish while waiting for clients.
